Second half shooting surge lifts RedHawks over Falcons By MIKE SMITH BOWLING GREEN, OH -- Miami Head Coach Travis Steele has been talking about how teams respond to adversity. Based on both the stat sheet and -- more importantly -- the scoreboard, Steele should like how is team responded Tuesday night. Down by three at intermission, the RedHawks hit 58.3 percent from the field and 71.4 percent on threes in the second half to pull out a 66-58 victory over Bowling Green at the Stroh Center. With just three regular season games remaining, the . . . RedHawks seek big road win at Bowling Green By MIKE SMITH The road has not been kind to Miami basketball this year. In fact, there have been some down right ugly moments away from Millett Hall. Those struggles make the RedHawks remaining schedule somewhat worrisome. Miami's next two games are on the road -- at Bowling Green Tuesday and at Eastern Michigan Saturday. That MIGHT be the easy part, because MU hosts Toledo and Ohio in the final two matchups. Both those teams already have wins over MU. Fresh off a victory over rival Toledo, Bowling Green(8-6) is a game in front of the RedHawks (7-7). A Miami win would also even the season series, given BGSU's 78-73 victory at Millett Hall back on Jan. 16. Bowling Green won that game at . . . UMass returning to MAC -- in all sports this time By MIKE SMITH Multiple media outlets, including Bleacher Report, are reporting UMass will be joining the Mid-American Conference as a full member (all sports) beginning in 2025-26. The Minutemen were football-only members from 2012-1015 and won three games in their final season. Two were against MAC competition. When UMass -- a founding member of the A-10 -- declined bringing in all of its sports to MAC membership, the football program lost its membership and became an independent. As one of only . . . RedHawks bounce back with walk-off win By MIKE SMITH CLEMSON, SC -- Four different RedHawks belted home runs and Jenna Golembiewski tallied the winning run as Miami edged UConn 7-6 Sunday at McWhorter Stadium. Ashley Hitchcock (3-1) tossed the final two innings, picking up the win while allowing three hits and one run. With the victory, MU bounced back from a pair of losses Saturday and raised its season record to 9-2. UConn dropped to 4-11, including two losses to Miami over the weekend. Addy Jarvis got the start for MU and . . . RedHawks drop DH to Ole Miss, No. 9 Clemson CLEMSON, SC -- Miami (8-2) softball's unblemished record came to an end Saturday with two losses in the Clemson Classic. The RedHawks led Ole Miss (11-2) 7-2 after four innings in Game One. However, the Rebels exploded for six runs in the fifth and and went on to post a 10-8 victory. Host Clemson (9-2), currently ranked No. 9 in the country, run-ruled the RedHawks 10-1 in Game Two. CLICK READ MORE TO CONTINUE . . . Dean scores 20 as Miami pummels Chippewas By MIKE SMITH OXFORD, OH -- The Miami RedHawks (7-7 MAC, 13-14 overall) have been riding a roller coaster this season. Their 7-7 Mid-American Conference record provides at least partial testimonial to the ride, but Saturday's 88-60 pummeling of Central Michigan (10-4 MAC, 16-11 overall) at Millett Hall is more evidence of MU's fluctuating fortunes. "I love roller coasters, but not (with) my team" Miami Head Coach Travis Steele said after the victory. Miami dazzled a week ago, drubbing Ball State 80-59. It then drizzled in a 77-58 loss at Western Michigan Tuesday. Steele called the latter an "abysmal performance." Saturday's home court matchup against Central Michigan, which handed MU a 16-point defeat January 23, figured to be a tough challenge. The Chippewas are third in the MAC standings, while Miami is tied for sixth. However, the . . . RedHawks remain unbeaten with win over UConn MRO STAFF CLEMSON, SC -- Holy Blaska and Chloe Parks stroked two hits each to help send Miami past UConn 6-3 in softball action Friday at McWhorter Stadium. Starter Madilyn Reeves (2-0) scattered five hits and allowed three runs to pick up the win as Miami raised its 2024 record to 8-0. Addy Jarvis got the save, throwing two hitless innings to finish the contest. Payton Kinny (0-2) took the loss as UConn fell to 4-9 on the campaign Miami took an early lead when Karlie Spaid drove a solo shot to left center in the first inning. Neither team scored from that point until MU added two more in the top of the fourth. Parks drove in Kate Kobayashi . . . CLICK READ MORE TO CONTINUE . . . RedHawks need to tame red-hot Chippewas By MIKE SMITH It is starting to look like this year's Miami RedHawks basketball team actually has TWO personalities. Maybe its not exactly Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, but we could call it Dr. J and Mr. Slide. Dr. J would be the RedHawks team that knocked off MAC co-leader Akron back on Jan. 27 and dominated Ball State Feb. 17. Mr. Slide is more like the RedHawks team that has slid to losses in four of its last five games. Only two games in that stretch were at home, and Miami split those outings. MU losl to Northern Illinois 62-59 and cruised past Ball State 80-59. Which Miami team will show up Saturday when . . . Broncos blast Miami; pull away in second half By MIKE SMITH KALAMAZOO, MI -- Any fans who saw either Miami or Western Michigan play last Saturday might believe there is no way either or those same squads participated in Tuesday's RedHawks vs Broncos matchup at University Arena. Coming off a 69-42 loss Saturday, Western Michigan broke a six-game losing streak by dominating Miami 77-58 Tuesday. The RedHawks, who broke a three-game slide by pummeling Ball State 80-59 three days earlier, failed to score 60 points for the third time in four games, with all three occasions resulting in losses. With the victory, WMU tied Miami in conference play. Both are . . . Miami seeks payback against Broncos MRO STAFF The RedHawks want more of the same. The Broncos would prefer to flip the script. Miami meets Western Michigan in Kalamazoo Tuesday night. Those two squads are coming off very different experiences last Saturday. While the RedHawks thumped Ball State by 21 points, WMU was blitzed by rival Central Michigan 69-42 on Toilet Paper Toss Day in Mount Pleasant. Tuesday's contest matchws teams battling to remain among the top MAC's to eight, who will earn a spot in the conference post-season tourney. Miami (6-6 MAC) is currently tied with Kent State for sixth place. The Broncos (5-7) are one game back -- alone in eighth place. The is the second MU-WMU meeting this . . . |
