Threes and frees lead to MU loss at Ball State By MIKE SMITH MUNCIE, IN -- Miami Head Coach Travis Steele is fond of reminding, "Defense travels." Conversely, as with any experienced coach, he knows offense may not travel, and Saturday's results supported that observation. The RedHawks made just 1-of-13 3-point tries while falling to Ball State 75-61 at Worthen Arena. It was the eighth win in nine games for BSU, which bounced back from a road loss at Ohio Tuesday night. MU beats odds to knock off Buffalo RedHawks overcome fouls, turnovers By MIKE SMITH OXFORD, OH -- If somebody had asked Miami Head Coach Travis Steele how he liked his chances in an upcoming game if he knew three starters would foul out and his team would commit 22 turnovers, he likely wouldn't have been very optimistic. Add in that the opponent would be a 2-0 (MAC) Buffalo squad that ranked fifth in the nation in fast break points, and the odds would go down even further. Odds be darned, however, as the RedHawks overcame it all to knock off Buffalo 91-80 Tuesday at Millett Hall. Four RedHawks reached double figures, with Mekhi Lairy leading the way. He scored 20 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed seven rebounds while playing nearly 39 minutes. Anderson Mirambeaux also . . . RedHawks come up short despite improvements KSU's Carry explodes for 31 points. By MIKE SMITH OXFORD, OH -- Miami head coach Travis Steele summed it up: "There's a reason he was conference player of the year." Speaking to media after Saturday's 69-66 Kent State win over MU, Steele was quick to credit KSU guard Sincere Carry. Last year's MAC Player of the Year played a key role in lifting the Flashes to a hard-fought win against Miami. Carry finished with 31 points and committed just one turnover while playing over 39 minutes. "We tried to do a lot of different things (on him), and none of it was working," said Steele, who felt his own squad played one of its better games of the season despite falling to 0-2 MAC (6-9 overall). Kent State raised its own record to 12-3 on the year and 2-0 in MAC play. Carry already had 28 points when . . . As the Portal Churns . . .
