RedHawks seek big road win at Bowling Green By MIKE SMITH The road has not been kind to Miami basketball this year. In fact, there have been some down right ugly moments away from Millett Hall. Those struggles make the RedHawks remaining schedule somewhat worrisome. Miami's next two games are on the road -- at Bowling Green Tuesday and at Eastern Michigan Saturday. That MIGHT be the easy part, because MU hosts Toledo and Ohio in the final two matchups. Both those teams already have wins over MU. Fresh off a victory over rival Toledo, Bowling Green(8-6) is a game in front of the RedHawks (7-7). A Miami win would also even the season series, given BGSU's 78-73 victory at Millett Hall back on Jan. 16. Bowling Green won that game at . . . . . . the foul line. Miami had two more field goals (28-26) and both teams hit seven treys. However, the Falcons got to the foul like for 31 shots and made 19. MU connected on 10 of 15. Junior guard Marcus Hill led the visitors with 23 points. Rashaun Agee, a 6-8 senior forward who is averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, recorded a double double with 15 points and 12 caroms. Jason Spurgin, a 7-0 center, was one rebound off the double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Trey Thomas contributed 14 points. Miami, meanwhile, was led by freshman center Reece Potter's 17-point performance. Ryan Mabry (13), Anderson Mirambeaux (12) and Darweshi Hunter (12) also reached double figures. MORE NOTES: -- Miami was hitting on all cylinders Saturday when it upset Central Michigan at Millett Hall. The RedHawks grabbed an early lead and were up by 18 at halftime. Hitting 52.4 percent overall and 63.3 percent on threes in the second stanza, Miami continued its blistering assault. -- Junior guard Bradley Dean led five RedHawks in double figures with 20 points. -- Head Coach Travis Steele was particularly happy about the "aggressive" attitude his guards showed while playing a big part in the victory. In addition to Dean's 20, Evan Ipsaro contributed 15 points and Mekhi Cooper added 10. ""We're a different team when those guys look to score the ball, especially with out front," Steele said. "Potter can stretch it and Andy (Mirambeaux) can play down low and Jaquel (Morris) is athletic. We've got a lot of weapons, and we just need those guards to continue to be aggressive." He continued, "They're talented, but they've got to have that mindset where they are going to catch to shoot." Comments are closed.
