While coaching for Illinois State, the team matched or bettered its win total every season, as the Redbirds concluded the 2025-26 season (23-13, 12-8 MVC) with their best record since 2016-17. Illinois State was 3-3 in NET Quad 1 contests during the 2025-26 season, the first time the program has had multiple Quad 1 wins in a year. It is also the first time since 2010 that the Redbirds recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons.<br /><br />Before joining Illinois State in 2022-23, Dakich worked as director of basketball operations at Elon University for two seasons. Prior to his time with the Phoenix, he spent three seasons at Ohio State, the first playing as a graduate senior with the men's basketball program and the final two as a graduate assistant and then a program assistant.<br /><br />During his season with the Buckeyes under Chris Holtmann, Dakich appeared in all 34 games, averaging 19 minutes per contest and recording 72 assists. He helped lead OSU to 25 wins, a 15-3 mark in Big Ten play and a Round of 32 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.<br /><br />Before arriving in Columbus, the Zionsville, Ind., native spent four years as a member of the University of Michigan basketball program. He earned All-Big Ten Academic honors three times with the Wolverines (2015-2017). During his four seasons at Michigan, the Wolverines compiled a 93-50 record and made three NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by an Elite Eight run in 2013-14 and a Sweet 16 appearance during his redshirt season in 2016-17.<br /><br />Dakich holds his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Michigan, and a master's degree in sports coaching from Ohio State University.<br /><br />"I'm grateful and fired up for the opportunity Coach Steele has given me here at Miami," said Dakich. A pair of costly errors added to Game Two issues.</font><br /><br /><font color="#090909">The losses dropped Miami to 38-18 on the season.&nbsp;</font><br /><br /><strong><font color="#a82e2e">GAME ONE -- WESTERN MICHIGAN 7, MIAMI 4</font></strong><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; Both teams put leadoff hitters on base and both scored one run in the first inning.</font><br /><font color="#090909">Katy Olive's sacrifice fly to right brought in Katy Olive for Miami.</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; WMU and MU again matched each other with single runs in the third. The Broncos got their tally on Caitlin Tighe's leadoff homer to right center. Miami's Mia Estrello matched that with a leadoff homer on MU's turn.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; It was a 2-2 game in the fifth when Western Michigan batted around against three RedHawk pitchers, ultimately scoring five runs on three hits and five walks against the combination of Presley Hosley and Angelina Ricciardi. By the time Lea Chevier -- Miami's Game Two starter -- took over in the circle, WMU led 7-2.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">Chevier retired the only batter she faced in the fifth and tossed two more innings of shutout ball. However, the damage was done.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; MU mounted a late rally in the seventh, scoring two runs on a Leila Mathis round-tripper. After a Bailey Manos single, WMU replaced starter Ava Geyer with Casey Fazzini, who got two quick outs to seal the Broncos win.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; In addition to 10 hits and eight walks, two WMU batters were hit by pitches. It made for a busy day on the base paths. In addition to the seven runs scored, Western Michigan left 13 runners on base. Miami stranded five runners.</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; Hosick (19-6) threw 102 pitches in 4.1 innings.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; The RedHawks recorded eight hits and drew a pair of walks. Manos (2) was the only MU player with multiple hits. Mathis went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. She also had one of two walks by Miami hitters.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; Chevrier used 34 pitches in 2.1 innings of Game One work. She would later throw 121 pitches over 7.0 innings against CMU in Game Two.&nbsp;</font><br /><br /><strong><font color="#a82e2e">GAME TWO -- CENTRAL MICHIGAN 7, MIAMI 3</font></strong><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; Miami got its only lead of the day when Evey Dieudonne hit a two-run homer to left&nbsp; with two outs in the first inning.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; MU remained in front until Central Michigan struck for two of its own in the fourth. A walk and single got the rally started. After a ground out and sacrifice bunt, Cierra Laska drove in both runners with a double.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; It became a 3-3 game after both teams added a run in the sixth.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">London Williams homered to center for CMU's score. Miami's score came on a line drive out to right by Ella Carter. It was enough for Hernandez to tag up and score from third, but the diving catch robbed Carter from getting at least a double.</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; It was a still a 3-3 game entering the seventh inning. However, Central Michigan drew a leadoff walk and followed with a single. After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners up, the Chippewas moved in front when Laska scored on a RedHawk throwing error. When Ashley Bila came home on a first-and-third steal play, CMU was up 5-3. Two singles and another error brought in two more runs. After a fly out to center, Miami finished the inning by throwing out a runner at home.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; The RedHawks went down 1-2-3 in the home half, ending their 2026 tournament experience.&nbsp;</font><br /><font color="#090909">&bull;&nbsp; Chevrier (L, 9-5) allowed seven runs (6 earned) on seven hits and seven walks. Bailey Manos was named Player of the Year, Presley Hosick was named Pitcher of the Year, and Mia Estrello was named Freshman of the Year. The RedHawks have never won all three of these awards in the same year and haven't won Player of the Year or Freshman of the Year since 2024, and Pitcher of the Year since 2023.&nbsp;<br /><br /><strong><font color="#a82e2e">Senior Bailey Manos, who earned Player of the Year</font> </strong>and First Team All-MAC honors, has had an impeccable season, through her resiliency and consistency at the plate, in the outfield, and as a teammate. Manos' statistics this season speak for themselves. In conference play, she posted a .481 batting average with 37 hits in 77 at-bats, along with six doubles and eight home runs. She ranks among the top performers in the MAC, sitting first in batting average, first in OPS (1.393), first in slugging percentage (.870), third in on-base percentage (.523), fourth in home runs, third in total bases (67), and eighth in RBI (26). She is also ranked 52nd in the nation for her slugging percentage. Hosick has logged 100.0 innings of conference play while maintaining a 2.38 ERA, ranking first in the MAC and fourth in innings pitched. She has allowed only two home runs all season, placing her tied for second in the MAC in that category, and has secured 13 wins, tied for first in the conference. <br /><br />&#8203;Her 12 complete games also rank second in the MAC and tie her for 13th nationally, as well as leading the MAC with six shutouts this season. She is tied for 9th in the Miami record books for most shutouts in a single season. Estrello started and appeared in all 27 conference games and all 54 games this season. Offensively, Estrello leads all MAC freshmen with a .391 batting average, recording 34 hits in 87 at-bats. She has struck out just nine times on the season while consistently producing in a key lineup role, batting second between two experienced seniors.&nbsp;</font></font><br /><font size="3" style="color:rgb(12, 11, 11)">She also broke the program's freshman hits record this season. Defensively, she has delivered multiple game-saving plays and currently ranks 14th in the nation in assists. She is the only freshman in the conference ranked in the top 20 in multiple statistical categories and holds the #10 spot nationally in second base defensive runs saved. Estrello has not only performed like a veteran but has become a cornerstone of the RedHawks infield, making her a clear choice for Freshman of the Year, All-MAC Freshman Team, and First Team All-MAC honors.</font></div> <hr style="width:100%;clear:both;visibility:hidden;"></hr>  <div class="paragraph"><font size="3"><strong><font color="#a82e2e">Junior Mckenna Campbell</font></strong><font color="#0f0e0e"> earned First Team All-MAC honors after posting a .400 batting average in conference play with 34 hits in 85 at-bats, eight doubles, and three home runs. She recorded a .635 slugging percentage and a .429 on-base percentage for a 1.064 OPS. Campbell also drove in 24 RBI in conference play, tying her for 11th in the MAC. She started and played in every conference game this season, becoming one of three RedHawks to do so. She walked two of the first three Falcon batters, but then settled down to end the inning with two straight strikeouts. She would finish the day with a career-high seven Ks.&nbsp;<br />&bull;&nbsp; Miami also mounted an early threat with back-to-back singles by Manos and Mia Estrello.
