Lairy leads RedHawk rally, but Raiders prevail

OXFORD, OH -- After trailing by 22 points with under seven minutes to play, the Miami RedHawks rallied to within four before falling to Wright State 88-80 Tuesday at Millett Hall. 

Despite missing some first half time due to foul issues, point guard Mekhi Lairy led the way for Miami (5-7) with 32 points. He knocked down 12-of-15 from the field overall and six of eight outside the arc.

RedHawk football adds new class to solid nucleus

Fresh off a recent bowl trip, Miami football Head Coach Chuck Martin "flipped the page" Wednesday as he met the media to discuss MU's National Signing Day class.

Miami rally falls short at Bahamas Bowl

Aveon Smith's pass to Jalen Walker came up two yards short of the end zone, and the Miami RedHawks finished four points short as Alabama-Birmingham edged MU 24-20 in HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl action Friday at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

Nothing came easy for the Miami RedHawks football team in 2022, and that certainly included reaching bowl eligibility. It took a 15-point second half rally, but MU managed to eke out an 18-17 victory over Ball State in the regular season finale. That raised Miami to 6-6 on the year, sending MU to its third straight bowl game (outside of the 2020 Covid year).

With exams in the rear view mirror and an upcoming game at Cincinnati on the horizon, the Miami RedHawks cruised past Columet College 85-49 Sunday at Millett Hall. 


"We didn't practice a ton... just to be able to focus on finals," head coach Travis Steele said of the past week. "I thought our guys really started off the game really well. I thought our ball really moved today. I thought we got back to that."

Coaches often talk about their team finding an identity. It's especially true of younger teams, teams coming out of a significant roster turnover and/or teams playing under a new coach early in the season.

There's some of all that going on at Miami, where new Head Coach Travis Steele is working on molding the 2022-23 RedHawks. It's days like Saturday, however, that make it clear Miami's "identity" i
s not yet what Steele envisions.
