Softball RedHawks open season with wins ELON, NC -- The Miami RedHawks opened 2024 on a pair of winning notes Friday. -- Former Youngstown State Illinois hurler Addy Jarvis went the distance for MU, striking out three and allowing two hits. -- Allie Cummins, Kari Spaid, Sami Bewick, Jenna Golembiewski, and Kate Kobayashi all hit homers. Bewick's was the first of her career, (in her first career at-bat). Kobayashi and Cummins each also hit a double. -- Miami scored five runs in the first two innings and added seven in the seventh inning. MIAMI 15, ELON 8 -- Freshman Madilyn Reeves got her first career start in the circle and recorded three strikeouts. -- Elon erupted for seven runs in the second inning to go up 7-1. MU came back with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. When Elon plated one run in the bottom of that inning, the teams were locked at 8-8. Miami exploded for seven runs in the seventh to earn the win. -- Former Rutgers pitcher Ashley Hitchcock was credited with the win. -- Jenna Golembiewski and Kate Kobayashi each belted grand slams.
