Reeves flirts with shutout as MU downs Bobcats By MIKE SMITH OXFORD, OH -- Madilyn Reeves (3-0) threw six scoreless innings on the way to a 5-2 complete game Miami victory over Ohio Saturday at the Miami Softball Stadium. With the victory, MU completed a sweep of a key conference contender and remained perfect (6-0) in Mid-American Conference play. The Bobcats managed six hits on the day, with three coming in the seventh when Ohio (13-17, 1-5 MAC) scored its only runs. Miami (22-6) recorded nine hits, including a Hadley Parisien two-run homer in the fifth. The freshman outfielder was one of three RedHawks enjoying a multiple hit day. Jenna Golembiewski and Karli Spaid also stroked two hits each. Allie Cummins led off the Miami first with . . . . . . a triple and Golembiewski followed with a single. After a walk and a catchers interference call, the junior came home on Kate Kobayashi's walk. Miami tacked on a run in the fourth on Spaid's infield single, but missed a chance for more -- leaving three on base. Chloe Parks singled to open the fifth and came around on Parisien's circuit shot to finish Miami scoring. Ohio went down in order in the sixth but scored its only runs in the seventh when CiCi Keidel doubled in a pair of Bobcats. Skipp Miller (7-10) took the loss for Ohio. NOTES: -- Miami steps out of MAC play Wednesday when it travels to Pitt. It continues from there to Buffalo for a three game series with the Bulls. That set starts Friday (3 p.m. ET) and finishes with a double header Saturday. -- According to Head Coach Kirin Kumar, among the RedHawks shining with the bat against Ohio was Hadley Parisien. The freshman outfielder, who bats from the left side went 6 for 10 with six RBIs in the three-game set. She also homered in game one and had the only homer by either team in Saturday's finale. Parisien's .448 batting average is second among MAC hitters. Jenna Golembiewski (.500) is first. -- Holly Blaska went hitless with a walk in game three, but she stroked six hits across the first two contests. -- Miami shortstop Reagan Bartholomew totaled six hits, 6 RBIs and 1 HR in the Ohio series. -- Kumar enjoys using Allie Cummins in the leadoff spot. While also a good hitter, Cummins has a good eye and feel for the strike zone. She leads the MAC in walks with 27. That is one of several reasons why five Miami players are among the MAC's top six RBI leaders. -- It's early but . . . Kent State (3-0 MAC) may be a team to watch this year. The Flashes were a preseason pick for eighth among 11 teams. However, they have won 10 straight overall and swept Ball State on the road over the weekend. Kent State is at Northern Illinois this week and hosts Ohio the following week. -- AKRON (5-1 MAC) swept NIU this weekend and took two of three from Toledo earlier in the month.
