RedHawk softball drops two in Athens ![]() ATHENS, GA -- Jacksonville State pushed across four runs in the seventh for a walk off 8-7 victory and No. 7 Georgia cruised past Miami 13-2 as the RedHawks dropped back-to-back games Friday at Jack Turner Stadium. GAME 1: JACKSONVILLE STATE (8-13) 8, MIAMI (13-4) 7 -- Jenna Golembiewski and Karlie Spaid had two hits apiece to lead Miami's offense. Holly Blaska, Spaid and Golembiewski homered, with the latter stroking two circuit shots. -- Jax State belted five home runs, accounting for all the Gamecock runs except for a walk-off single in the seventh inning. -- Miami jumped in front 1-0 with Golembiewski's first homer, but JSU responded in kind with Morgan Nowalkowski's home run in the second inning. -- Miami exploded for four runs in the third, with three . . . . . . coming on home runs. JAX State made it a 5-3 game with two runs in the bottom half.
-- The Gamecock pulled with one run on Lindsey Richardson's fifth inning solo blast. Miami then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for a 7-4 edge. -- Richardson's second homer of the contest -- a three- run shot -- tied the game. After a double, Madilyn Reeves came on to relieve Ashley Hitchcock. After a walk and a wild pitch, both runners advanced. With nobody out, and first base open, MU walked another batter to load the bases. Addy Jarvis came on to pitch, and Hannah Bluffington greeted her with a game-winning single to right field. -- Hitchcock (4-2) took the loss. Amber Reed (2-1) got the win. -- Both teams 10 hits. GAME 2: No. 7 GEORGIA (16-3) 13, MIAMI (13-5) -- Two of the Bulldog's first three batters homered to kick start an eight run first inning. -- Neither team scored again until Miami plated two runs in the fifth on a Jenna Golembiewski homer to left center. -- Jayda Kearney's grand slam home run capped off a five-run Georgia fifth to seal the Bulldogs 13-2 run-rule victory. -- Madeilyn Reeves (5-2) took the loss for Miami. Lilli Backes (5-1) got the win. -- Georgia recorded nine hits and also benefitted from seven walks, as well as three MU errors. Only eight of the 13 runs were earned. -- The RedHawks had four hits and coaxed just one walk out of Georgia pitching. Comments are closed.
