Chippewas end Miami softball win streak MOUNT PLEASANT, MI -- Hosting Central Michigan stroked 11 hits and took advantage of four RedHawk errors while knocking off No. 24 Miami 9-5 Sunday at Margo Junker Stadium. The Chippewas' victory broke a MAC-record 23-game win streak by MU, which fell to 18-1 in Mid-American Conference play and 36-7 overall. Central Michigan, meanwhile, raised its overall record to 13-26 on the season and 10-7 in league action. Madilyn Reeves (13-3) took the loss for . . . . . . Miami, lasting 2.0 innings and allowing six runs (5 earned) on four hits. She walked three and struck out two. Addy Jarvis went the final four innings, surrendering seven hits and three runs (1 earned). Overall, the RedHawks committed four errors, contributing to three unearned runs on the day.
Offensively, MU totaled five runs on seven hits. Hadley Parisien was the only Miami player with multiple hits. She went 2-for-3 at the plate. The RedHawks held a brief lead, scoring one run in the top of the first. Allie Cummins walked to open the game and one out later Karli Spaid doubled her home. Central Michigan struck back with two runs in its half and took a 6-0 lead following catcher Carly Sleeman's two-out grand slam down the left field line in the second. A leadoff single and pair of two-out walks preceded the blast. Both teams scored single runs in the third, but CMU added to its advantage with two more runs in the fourth. They would be the Chippewas' final runs, but Central Michigan was now up 9-2. Jenna Golembiewski hit a solo homer for Miami in the fifth. However, MU went scoreless in the sixth and could only plate two runs (on a Reagan Bartholomew home run) in the seventh inning. Grace Lehto (6-13) went the distance for CMU, scattering seven hits and six walks while striking out seven. Comments are closed.
