RedHawks blast five homers in 13-5 win at Akron MRO AKRON, OH -- Kate Kobayashi and Reagan Bartholomew hit two homers apiece and combined for nine RBIs to lead Miami past Akron 13-5 Sunday at Lee R. Jackson Field. The victory gave MU a series sweep and kept the RedHawks (32-6, 14-0 MAC) undefeated in Mid-American Conference play. It was the 19th straight win for Miami. Akron, meanwhile, fell to 18-23 overall, 7-8 MAC. Freshman pitcher Madilyn Reeves picked up the win, raising her record to 15-2 on the campaign. She threw 4.0 innings, allowing seven hits and all five Zip runs. Four came in the fourth -- Reeves' last inning of work. Addy Jarvis tossed two hitless innings . . . . . . in relief. Macy Walters (5-7) absorbed the loss for Akron, allowing eight runs in 3.2 innings. -- Miami took an early lead with four runs in the first inning. After two walks and two outs, Koabayashi reached first on an Akron error. Allie Cummins scored on the play and Bartholomew followed with a three-run homer. -- Jenna Golembewski's single in the second inning scored Sami Bewick to give Miami a 5-0 lead. -- Kobayashi's third inning, two-run home run put the visiting RedHawks up 7-0. However, Akron finally got on the scoreboard with a single tally in its turn at the plate. -- Cummins homered to left for MU's only fourth inning run. The Zips then rallied for four runs against Reeves. A double, single and walk loaded the bases before freshman Morgan Sizemore brought them all home with a grand slam. Reeves gave up one more hit -- a single -- while recording three outs and avoiding further damage. - - Now up 8-5, Miami responded with four runs of its own in the fifth. After Blaska scored on an Akron error, Bartholomew homered to center, driving in Kobayashi. Cummins later finished the rally with an RBI single to put Miami up 12-5. -- Jarvis, in relief for MU, struck out the side in the fifth. When Kobayashi homered in the Miami sixth, it gave the RedHawks an eight-run advantage. Jarvis shut out Akron against in the bottom half, securing a 13-5 MU run-rule victory. NEXT: The RedHawks return home next week, hosting Ball State for a pair of games Tuesday (3 p.m. and 5 p.m. ET) before heading to Central Michigan for a three-game series next weekend.
