MU softball opens on winning note OXFORD, OH -- Miami kicked off its home and MAC schedules with an 8-2 win over Western Michigan Friday at the MU Softball Stadium. Madilyn Reeves raised her record to 5-2, scattering six hits while striking out five over seven innings. Rissa Bajusz (6-6) took the loss for Western Michigan. It was the third straight win for Miami, which raised its season mark to 16-6. The Broncos fell to 10-11. The RedHawks struck first with . . . . . . two in the first. Holly Blaska drove in both with a single to left.
WMU cut its deficit in half with one run in the fifth, but Karli Spaid answered with her 15th homer of the season to open the bottom half. MU then added four more runs. Sami Bewick's deep fly to center placed two of the scores. Reagan Bartholomew's home run to left center added two more. Both teams added one more run in the six. Gabbie Evans' infield single drove in the Broncos final tally. Blaska scored an unearned run for MU. Western Michigan committed three errors on the day, while the RedHawks had one.
