Miami moves to 4-0 with DH win over App State ELON, NC -- The Miami RedHawks (4-0) stayed in the win column Saturday, posting two wins over Appalachian State in a double-header with the Mountaineers at Hunt Softball Park. After trailing 2-0 , MU struck for five runs in the fifth inning of the first game. Neither team scored after that. -- MU's Addy Jarvis struck out five while throwing her second complete game in two days. -- Both teams had seven hits. -- Miami was down 2-0 in the fifth when Jenna Golembiewski doubled in the RedHawks first run. Sami Bewick drove in the next four later in the inning with a grand slam. -- Jarvis (2-0) picked up the win. GAME TWO -- MIAMI 12, APP STATE 1 -- Nine RedHawks recorded hits and seven had at least one RBI. Four MU players stroked extra base hits, which included three homers. -- Golembiewski and Shelby Kunkel drilled first inning two-run shots to give Miami an early 4-0 lead. -- The floodgates opened even more in the second, with Karli Spaid's three-run homer highlighting Miami's six-run inning. Spaid, who went 3 for 3 tripled in her fourth RBI during a two-run fifth. -- The Mountaineers, who totaled three hits, got their only run on a solo third inning home run. -- Ashley Hitchcock (2-0) ot the start for MU, allowing three hits and one run.
