RedHawks take two at NIU; finish regular season Sunday MRO STAFF DeKALB, ILL -- The nation's top home-run producing team managed just two round trip shots, but Miami's RedHawks nonetheless managed to collect two more solid wins Saturday at Mary M. Bell Field. Madilyn Reeves (19-4) tossed seven shutout innings as the RedHawks defeated Northern Illinois 7-0 in Game One. Addy Jarvis (17-1) pitched five innings while picking up the win as MU downed NIU 11-2in the second game. With the victories, Miami raised . . . . . . its overall record to 44-7 (25-1 MAC). The Huskies dropped to 18-33 (9-18 MAC).
GAME ONE: MIAMI 7, NORTHERN ILLINOIS 0 -- Neither team scored through the first three innings, and NIU recorded the only hits -- with two first inning singles. -- Miami finally broke through in the fourth. Jenna Golembiewski walked with one out and two batters later came home on an Allie Cummins single. Sami Bewick followed with a two-run homer to put the visitors up 3-0. -- NIU pitching got two RedHawks out in the fifth before Kate Kobayashi doubled to center. Spaid singled down the left field line to score the outfielder. -- Miami did more two-out damage in the sixth, plating three more runs. Two walks and a single loaded the bases before Cummins scored on an error. Hadley Parisien followed with a two-run single to right. Claire Norred replaced Danielle Stewart on the mound and issued two walks to load the bases. However, she avoided further damage with a strikeout. -- Reeves allowed just one baserunner - a leadoff single in the seventh -- over the last two innings to nail down the Miami victory. -- It was the RedHawks 11th shutout of the season and Reeves' third straight appearance (totaling 15 innings) without allowing a run. GAME TWO: MIAMI 11, NORTHERN ILINOIS 2 -- Both offenses picked it up a notch in Game two, with the RedHawks registering 11 runs on 10 hits and NIU collecting two runs on five hits. -- Miami jumped in front with two first inning runs. Spaid and Golembiewski hit back-to-back doubles. The latter then stole third and scored on a Husky error. -- MU added a single run in the third on Karli Spaid's 100th career home run. Through May 2) She led the nation with 32 this season, while Jenna Golembiewski was second (28) and Kate Kobayashi fourth (20). -- The RedHawks expanded their lead to 7-0 with four more runs in the fifth inning. Spaid drove in one with a double. Cummins' single brought Holly Blaska and Spaid home. Cummins subsequently scored with the help of an NIU error. -- Two inning-opening singles helped Northern Illinois finally get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. -- Owning a 7-2 lead to start the frame, MU parlayed three hits and two walks into four runs. -- Hitchcock replaced Jarvis on the mound for Miami for the bottom half and retired the side in order. -- Cummins had three RBIs.
