RedHawks take 2-of-3 at Ball State Host Chippewas in big series this weekend MUNCIE, IN -- After shutting out Ball State 6-0 Tuesday, the Miami RedHawks split a twin-bill with BSU Wednesday. Miami took the first game 4-3 as Brianna Pratt picked up her 22nd win against 10 losses. Ball State then came back with a vengance, scoring seven first inning runs and going on to register a 10-0, five-inning victory. With the series win, Miami moved to 16-7 in conference play. Ball State dropped to 15-11. The RedHawks are now tied with Ohio (16-7) for second place. Miami will meet first place Central Michigan (17-6) in a big series, starting with two games (1 p.m., 3 p.m.) Saturday, April 29. The Chippewas are currently riding an 11-game win streak. MIAMI 6, BALL STATE 0 Miami took an early lead with two runs in the first and added a single run in the second. It stayed 3-0 until the seventh, when MU added three more. Allie Cummins and Riley Coyne both homered in the frame, with the latter belting a two-run shot to right field. The duo accounted for all five RedHawk RBIs in the contest. Cummins went 3-for-4 at the plate. Brianna Pratt struck out nine and did not walk a batter while scattering five hits to raise her record to (21-10). RECAP- GAME 1 -- WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26 -- MUNCIE, IN MIAMI 4, BALL STATE 3 Miami scratched out a first inning run when Allie Cummins walked stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Karli Spaid's sacrifice fly. The RedHawks then went up 3-0 with Jenna Golemblewski's two-run homer. However, Ball State tied the contest with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Pratt left two runners stranded in scoring position by inducing a ground out and striking out a batter to end BSU's rally. Maddi Banks coaxed a walk to lead off the fifth. After two outs, she moved to second on a wild pitch and came home with the game-winning score on Spaid's double to right. Pratt (22-10) worked out of a two-on, two-out jam in the sixth and set the Cardinals down 1-2-3 in the seventh to pick up the win. RECAP- GAME 2 -- WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26 -- MUNCIE, IN BALL STATE 10, MIAMI 0 The Cardinals banged out five hits while also taking advantage of two walks and a hit batter to jump in front 7-0 in the first inning. They added three runs in the fifth, despite not getting a hit. The Cardinals finished with 10 runs on five hits, while MU managed just three hits off Bridie Murphy (7-2).
