RedHawks dodge Rocket bullet, rally for walk-off win All four UT runs unearned as MU overcomes four errors AKRON, OH -- Karli Spaid and Sami Bewick homered and combined for four RBI's to lead a Miami comeback Thursday as the top-seeded RedHawks rallied to defeat No. 4 seed Toledo in MAC Softball Tournament action at Firestone Stadium. With the win, MU raised its season record to 46-7. The Rockets fell to 26-22. Miami moves on with a Friday, noon matchup against the winner of No. 2 Ohio vs. No. 6 Ball State awaiting. Toledo grabbed an early 2-0 lead in a game that ultimately took nine hours to complete thanks to three rain delays. Two more Rocket runs in the top of the fourth gave UT a 4-0 lead before Miami began its comeback. All four Toledo runs were unearned as the Rockets took advantage of four MU errors. Hadley Parisien's sacrifice foul out to left field plated MU's first run in the bottom of the fourth. Miami then pulled within one (4-3) when Bewick belted a two-run homer to left in the fifth inning. After a scoreless sixth and . . . . . . top of seventh, Miami had one last chance to at least tie the contest. Spaid took care of that with a leadoff home run to right field. Golembiewski and Blaska followed, both working full counts before coaxing a walk. Allie Cummins advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. That brought up Bewick, who drove a 1-2 pitch to deep left field. It was more than enough for Golembiewski to tag and come home with the winning run. Freshman Madilyn Reeves went the distance for Miami, picking up to win to raise her personal record to 21-3. She allowed seven hits, four runs (all unearned) and struck out four while walking three and hitting a batter. Mady Yackee pitched two innings for UT, followed by Sophia Knight (14-11) who took the loss. The latter allowed all five runs, striking out five and walking five while allowing five hits. Kendra Vanderlught led Rocket hitters with three hits in four at-bats. Emily Brcamonte went 2-for-3. Toledo stranded nine runners. Miami's offense was led by Spaid, who went 3-for-4, including a double and game-tying home run. Chloe Parks recorded two hits and Bewick drove in three runs.
