Kobayashi homers twice as RedHawks beat Panthers PITTSBURGH, PA -- Miami softball's magic number of the day Wednesday was 10. The RedHawks stroked 10 hits (including five homers) and scored 10 runs as Miami (23-6) ran its current win streak to 10 games with a 10-6 win over Pitt (8-22) at Vantabedian Field. Kate Kobayashi led the way, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two homers and four RBIs. Allie Cummins (2-for-2) and Karlie Spaid (2-for-3) also had multiple-hit days, with each belting a home run. Sami Bewick also homered. Freshman Madilyn Reeves (6-2) got the win, allowing all six Panther runs on six hits through 5.1 innings on the mound. Ashley Hitchcock picked up . . . . . . the save with 1.2 hitless/scoreless innings of work. Adriana Romano, who failed to record an out in the first, picked up the loss. She was one of four Pitt pitchers on the day.
Miami opened the contest with Cummins and Golembiewski homering to center. Spaid walked and Blaska singled. After a pitching change, Kobayashi greeted the new hurler with a three-run shot to left field for a 5-0 RedHawks lead. Panther catcher Amanda Ramierez, who went 2-for-2 registered the first of her three RBI's with a solo homer to center in the second. Both teams put two runs on the board in the third. Bewick's homer drove in Kobayashi for MU's runs. Griggs matched that with a two-run shot in the bottom half. Pitt pulled within three (7-4) with a single tally i the fourth and both teams scored two sixth inning runs. Spaid's homer drove in Cummins for MU. Ramierez belted her second home run of the day - this one a two-run shot - for Pitt's final run (and hit). NEXT: The RedHawks return to MAC action Friday when they begin a three-game series at Buffalo.
