OXFORD, OH --
Three days after absorbing a lopsided loss at St. Bonaventure, Miami dished out the punishment as MU cruised past Spalding University 82-43 Tuesday at Millett Hall.

The victory evened Miami's record at 3-3, with a brutal road trip set to begin Saturday at Marshall. That will be followed by matchups against Ohio State, Davidson and Wright State.

Spalding, a Division III member of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, came in with an 0-4 mark and counted the game as an exhibition. Dominic Sanders led the Pelicans with 14 points in 23 minutes off the bench.

Game high scoring honors went to Miami's Jackson Kotecki, who came off the RedHawks bench to score a career-high 19 points in 16 minutes. He hit 6 of 7 shots from the floor, including both 3-point tries, and 5 of 6 at the line. Joining the 6-9 freshman in double figures were Mekhi Cooper (15), center Jaquel Morris (11), and Eian Elmer. Cooper and Morris connected on a combined 9 of 11 from the floor.

As a team, the RedHawks . . .

. . . sank 27 of 63 (42.9%) overall and held Spalding to 15 of 54 (27.8%) from the floor. Miami, which was outrebounded by the a bigger and more experienced St. Bonaventure team 42-22 Saturday, controlled the boards with a 54-30 edge against Spalding. The RedHawks also got to the line for 32 charity tosses and made 21 (65.6%).

Miami took control early, running off the game's first 11 points. The run ended on a steal and layup by Ryan Mabrey. By night's end, the RedHawks would have a 29-2 advantage in fast break points.

Miami was up by seven at 10:43 when Mabry and Bryson Bultman hit back-to-back three pointers to start a 13-4 RedHawks run. The 16-point lead was Miami's largest of the first half. Spalding chipped away and trailed 35-24 at intermission.

The hosts expanded their lead in the second half, sealing the verdict with a 22-0 run during one stretch.
