Softball drops pair of Saturday tilts ![]() COLUMBIA, SC -- A rough start set the stage for a 6-3 Miami softball loss to Georgia State Saturday at the Carolina Softball Stadium. That setback, along with MU's five-inning 12-2 loss to undefeated South Carolina earlier in the day, left the RedHawks with a 2-7 record for the season. Georgia State had just one more hit (7-6),.but the Panthers tallied two runs in the first two frames and added single runs in the third and fifth innings. Kaylee Oh finally put Miami on . . . . . . the board in the sixth with a leadoff homer down the left field line. After Shelby Kunkel drew a walk, Holly Merrit followed with a home run to right center.
Junior Le'a Chevrier (0-3) took the loss for Miami, pitching all six innings. She walked four and struck out three while surrendering five earned runs. Sydney Boulware picked up the win for Georgia State, which recorded its first win in nine games. In Saturday's first game, host South Carolina and Miami were tied at 1-1 through three innings. However, after MU failed to score in the top of the fourth, South Carolina erupted for 11 runs on eight hits with three walks and two RedHawk errors along the way. Five of the runs were scored before a 27-minute rain delay. Kaylee Oh's infield single added a single run for Miami in the fifth. Jenna Golembiewski scored MU's other run in the second. She tripled with one out and scored on a fielder's choice one batter later. Madilyn Reeves (1-3) took the loss for Miami, allowing four runs while surrendering three hits and six walks in 3.0 innings. Shelbie Krieger (0.0 innings) and Shelby Kunkel (1.0 innings) each gave up four run in their stints in the circle. Sam Gress (1-0) picked up the win for South Carolina, allowing two earned runs on five hits over 5.0 innings of work. She struck out three and walked three. Comments are closed.
