RedHawks split double-header with CMU ![]() By MIKE SMITH MOUNT PLEASANT, MI -- Madilyn Reeves picked up her 16th victory but Central Michigan downed Miami in Game Two of a double header at Margo Junker Stadium Saturday. The setback marked MU's first conference loss and ended a a 10-game RedHawks winning streak. However, MU (12-1 MAC, 22-16 overall) remains in front of Ohio (8-2), which split a pair with Akron Friday. Central Michigan (8-3 MAC, 16-16 overall) is third among MAC teams. Reeves struck out 10 and . . . . . . the RedHawk offense registered eight hits during a 3-2 Miami win in the opener. The Chippewas scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. All three MU runs came in the fifth. Booklyn Compau (5-5) took the loss. Central Michigan out-hit the RedHawks 9-7 while knocking off MU 8-2 in the second game. Le'a Chevrier (7-6) took the loss, surrendering eight runs, eight hits and walking six while striking out five. MacKenzie Langan (7-7) got the win. Miami and CMU will complete their series Sunday with a single game, starting at noon. NOTE: Because the games were moved from Oxford due to weather issues, Miami was the home team for both games. GAME ONE: MIAMI 3, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 2 • Neither team scored in the first three innings, and Danitza Hernandez' third inning single for MU was the only hit through three frames. • CMU broke through with the game's first run on Alyssa Hollo's fourth inning RBI double. • The Chippewas made it 2-0 in the fifth with an RBI single by Carly Sleeman. However, MU saved another run on a throw from Kaylee Oh to catcher McKenna Campbell to nail Maddison Diekman at home. • All three Miami runs came in the bottom of the fifth. Oh's one-out double got it started. One out later, Jenna Golembiewski was hit by a pitch. Chloe Parks' single drove in the first run. Campbell then walked to load the bases. Erin Pinter doubled to right center, driving in two more for a 3-2 RedHawk lead. • Reeves allowed two walks in each of the Chippewas final two turns at the dish. However, she did not allow a hit and stranded all four runners to preserve the win. GAME TWO: CENTRAL MICHIGAN 8, MIAMI 2
• As in Game One, neither team scored in the first three innings. • A hit batter and two walks loaded the bases for CMU with one out in the fourth.After a sacrifice fly brought one run home, Rachel Cairo added another while MU dealt with an attempted steal at second. • Hernandez' homer to center field cut Miami's deficit to 2-1. A single and double followed, but CMU ended the threat with a relay throw that cut down Carter at home. • Central Michigan put the game away with three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Hollo's three-run homer did the damage in the fifth. Diekman's double scored the first sixth inning run. Singles by Emma Lotus and London Williams added two more. • Miami's second run mirrored its first as Hernandez blasted her second home run of the game. • Miami's Chevrier threw 134 pitches over 6.0 innings. Langan used 102 pitches while picking up the win. • Freshman Shelbie Krieger pitched a scoreless seventh for MU, allowing one hit and striking out one. It was her first appearance since facing Marshall back on March 18. • Hernandez went 3 for 6 with two homers and a double on the day. Comments are closed.
