Outhit 10-4, RedHawks beat NIU 5-3 Pair of sixth inning homers lift MU in series opener ![]() By MIKE SMITH OXFORD, OH -- Kaylee Oh and Jenna Golembiewski homered while driving in two runs each to lead Miami (14-15, 4-0 MAC) over Northern Illinois (7-15, 2-2 MAC) 5-3 Friday at the Miami Softball Stadium. The Huskies banged out 10 hits but were limited to three runs by RedHawk hurler Madilyn Reeves, who struck out six and walked three across seven innings. She raised her record to 9-6 on the campaign. Danielle Stewart (2-7) took the . . . . . . loss. She fanned seven and walked just one with one HBP in five innings. All five Miami runs were credited to her. Taylor Mackin finished finished for NIU. ![]() • After a scoreless first, Northern Illinois got on the board with Rylie Hartman's second inning home run. She was one of four NIU players with multiple hits on the day. • Lia Nance singled in another Huskies run in the top of the third. • The RedHawks, who had just one hit through four innings, finally broke through with one run in the fifth. Ella Carter doubled to lead off the inning and moved up a base on Holly Merritt's fly out to right field. Carter then scored on a wild pitch. • NIU took a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Turner's two-out single to right scored Hartman. Further damage was averted when Campbell threw out Turner on a steal attempt. ![]() • Miami turned the outcome in the sixth when the first four batters scored. Leadoff batter Danitza Hernandez started the rally when she was hit by a pitch. Oh followed with a home run to left. After Shelby Kunkel drew a four-pitch walk, Jenna Golembiewski blasted a home run to right center. Mackin came in to pitch for NIU, and retired three of the next four batters. However, MU took a 5-3 lead to the seventh. • Reeves allowed a one out single, but she then induced a pop up and followed with a strikeout to end the Huskies final threat, with three in the last five outings. ![]() NEXT: Miami and NIU finish their three-game series with two Saturday games. The first starts at 1 p.m. The second contest follows (approximately 3 p.m.) NOTES: • Northern Illinois stranded seven runners in the contest. MU left two on base. • Both teams played errorless softball. • Three of MU's four hits were for extra bases; two were home runs. • Golembiewski now has 12 homers on the year. • Oh has six home runs in 2025.
