Miami softball knocks off Drake, Missouri

​COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Miami University softball team picked up two wins Friday afternoon, defeating Drake University, 9-5, before knocking off the University of Missouri, 5-1. The win over Missouri is Miami's fourth win over a Power-4 program this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1 vs Drake)
The RedHawks opened up scoring in the bottom of the first, with Danitza Hernandez doubling and allowing both Evey Dieudonne to score from third and Ella Carter to score from first.
The Bulldogs responded in the top of the third, scoring off a single, 2-1.
Miami widened the gap in the bottom of the third when Bailey Manos singled, allowing Katy Olive to score.
The Red and White continued their lead in the fourth inning, with Manos scoring off a double, hit by Mia Estrello. Estrello then scored on Dieudonne's single, making the score 6-1.
Hernandez made the score 7-1 in the fifth inning, hitting a deep left home run.
The Bulldogs followed it up in the top of the sixth, hitting a grand glam to make it 7-5.
Manos made it final in the bottom of the sixth with a home run of her own that also brought in Erin Pinter, making the final score 9-5.

NOTES
Léa Chevrier hit 100 strikeouts in her Miami career.
Danitza Hernandez went 3-for-3 at the plate, with a double, a home run and four RBI.
Bailey Manos went 2-for-4 at the plate, with a home run and three RBI.
Evey Dieudonne went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run.
Mia Estrello went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and one RBI.
Katy Olive went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2 vs Missouri)
Miami kicked off scoring at the top of the third, with a home run hit by Dieudonne, allowing Manos to run in, making the score 2-0.
The RedHawks continued their lead at the top of the fifth when Pinter hit a triple, allowing Manos to score from second and Dieudonne to score from first. Pinter was then able to score when Hernandez hit a single, making the score 5-0.
The Tigers responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring off a single hit, 5-1.
The RedHawks ultimately won, 5-1.

NOTES
Danitza Hernandez went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Bailey Manos went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.
Erin Pinter went 1-for-2 at the plate and had two RBI.
Presley Hosick pitched a complete game, only allowing one run on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
This is the RedHawks' fourth win over a Power-4 program this season.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks play again tomorrow, Feb 28, against Wichita State University at 1:30 p.m. and the University of Missouri at 6:30 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
