Buffalo offense explodes to deny RedHawks sweep By MIKE SMITH BUFFALO, NY -- Hosting Buffalo erupted for seven third-inning runs on the way to a 9-5 Game Two win over Miami late Friday at Nan Harvey Field. The RedHawks took Game One (10-3) earlier in the day. With the loss, MU dropped to 25-10 overall and 7-4 in MAC action. Buffalo moved to 17-19 on the year, with a 6-5 MAC mark. Genevieve Longsdorf (7-5) got the win, while Lea Chevrier (8-3) took the loss. Miami held a 4-1 lead . . . . . . entering the bottom of the third. However, Chevrier was unable to retire a batter in the inning. Two Buffalo runs had already scored before Abbey Nagel's three-run homer to left center gave the Bulls a 6-3 lead.
Angela Ricciardi relieved Chevrier, but UB wasn't done. A walk and two singles loaded the bases before MU got its first out of the inning. Reagan Terwilliger then doubled in two runs for an 8-4 Buffalo advantage. Neither team scored in the fourth or fifth innings. Buffalo added one in the sixth. Now facing five-run deficit (9-4), Miami put together one last rally. Mia Estrello opened the seventh with a double, Katy Olive walked and Danitza Hernandez singled -- scoring Estrello -- before an out was recorded. However, MU managed just one more single as Buffalo closed out its victory. NOTES: • Originally scheduled for one game Friday and two Saturday, the teams played two on Friday and will try to get in one game (noon) Saturday if weather permits. • Buffalo out-hit Miami 14-8 in Game Two. • Hernandez and McKenna Campbell led Miami's offense with two hits apiece. • Miami batters drew five walks and struck out just twice. • The Bulls won despite committing four errors. Miami recorded one error. • Miami returns home next week, hosting Ohio for one game Tuesday (3 p.m.) and two contests Wednesday (starting at 1 p.m.). Comments are closed.
