RedHawks split pair at Gopher Indoor Classic ![]() MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Miami hitters banged out a total of 28 hit and scored 22 runs while earning a split of two games played Friday at US Bank Stadium. Both contests were part of the Gopher Indoor Classic The RedHawks rallied for three seventh inning runs and left three on base while falling to St. Thomas 14-13 in the first game. Miami rebounded for a 9-1 win over North Dakota State (7-8) in the second contest. With the verdicts, MU moved to 5-11 on the season. The RedHawks return to action Saturday, facing St. Thomas again (11 a.m.) in the first game and Minnesota in a 4 p.m. tilt. FRIDAY GAME ONE: : St. Thomas 14, Miami 13 • The Tommies scored in all six at-bats, plating two in each of the first three innings, two in the fifth and single runs in the fourth and sixth. • Miami scored one in the first and three in the third. Two more in the sixth pulled the RedHawks with four. Three singles and three walks led to three runs and a bases loaded with two outs opportunity. However, reliever Ella Cook struck out MU slugger Jenna Golembiewski to save the St. Thomas win. • Kahlee Oh, Shelby Kunkel and Golembiewski homered for Miami. Oh (2), Kunkel (3), Chloe Parks (2) and Ella Carter (2) recorded multi-hit games. • Madilyn Reeves (2-5) took the loss, allowing 12 hits and nine runs (6 earned) in four innings. Shelbie Krieger tossed two innings of two-hit ball, allowing one run. • Ava Kleinfeldt (3-0) got the win for St. Thomas. FRIDAY GAME TWO: Miami 9, North Dakota State 1
• Junior Le'a Chevrier scattered six hits and surrendered just one run. • The RedHawk offense totaled 15 hits while scoring nine runs. • Parks got MU on the board in the first frame, scoring Kunkel on a single. • The RedHawks added two more in the second on a Danitza Hernandez two run homer to center field. • After NDSU tallied its only run in the top of the fourth. Hernandez hit her second homer of the contest. Holly Merritt followed with her own solo shot. • Golembiewski, who went 3 for 4 in the contest, homered and Ella Carter singled in Parks for Miami's two fifth inning runs. • Kunkel and Golembiewski singled in a pair of runs in the sixth. • Golembiewsk and Hernandez recorded three RBIs each. • Hernandez, Campbell, Carter and Merrit recorded two hits apiece. • Chevrier struck out two and scattered four walks over six innings to get the win and raise her record to 3-4 on the campaign. • Savy Williams (3-4) took the loss.
