RedHawks hold off late Kent State rally OXFORD, OH -- After holding a 5-0 lead through five innings, the Miami RedHawks (22-8. 4-3 MAC) held off a late Kent State (14-14, 4-3 MAC) rally to claim an 8-7 win Friday at the Miami Softball Stadium. The Flashes scored all seven of their runs in the final two frames. Four came in the top of the fourth, drawing KSU within one at 5-4. Miami nearly matched that with a three-spot in the bottom half, but Kent State pushed across three more in the seventh inning. Two Miami pitchers worked . . . . . . the seventh inning. Angelina Ricciardi replaced starter Presley Hosick (W, 6-3), who worked six innings while picking up the win. However, when the first two flashes got on base, Lea Chevrier replaced Ricciardi.
Brooke Alberle's walk loaded the bases and Aaralyn Nogay plated two runs with a single to left. She advanced to second on a fielding error. Brynn Libler kept the line moving with a single that scored Alberle. However, Nogay -- the tying run -- was cut down at home on a throw from left. Chevrier took care of the final two outs on a pop out to second and six-pitch strikeout to pick up a save. Riley Miller (L, 8-6) took the loss for KSU, allowing five runs on six hits with one walk and one HBP. Fern Meadow followed, surrendering three runs on three hits with three walks, two K's and one HBP. Danitza Hernandez (3 hits, 1 HR), Katy Olive (2 hits, 2 HRs) and Leila Mathis led the RedHawks offense. Catcher Caleigh Shaulis was the only multi-hit contributor for KSU. She homered and doubled while driving in four runs. NEXT: The two teams will play two Saturday, with the first game starting at 1 p.m. Comments are closed.
