Ricciardi no-hitter caps MU sweep of Rockets

Offense, defense, pitching!  
Miami softball shined across the board Saturday as the RedHawks swept Toledo 14-1 and 9-1 in double header action at Scott Park.

Junior pitcher Angelina Ricciardi (10-4) finished off the sweep with a five-inning no-hitter. The Rockets only run came in the first inning. Miami, meanwhile, scored in each of the first four innings, totaling nine runs on nine hits. 

The RedHawks offense . . . 

. . . was even more productive in Game One, scoring 14 runs on 15 hits. Eight of the runs came in the seventh inning. Presley Hosick (11-4) got the win, scattering seven hits while limiting the hosts to one run. 

With the sweep, Miami moved to 30-12 (12-6 MAC) on the season. Toledo fell to 12-28 (8-10 MAC).  

NEXT: The two teams will close their series with a single game Sunday at noon. 
GAME ONE
•  McKenna Campbell's single to center drove in Bailey Monos for a first inning run. 
•  The RedHawks played long ball for two runs in the second. Leila Mathis banged a one-out double to left center and Kari Krueger followed with a home run. 
•  Campbell opened the third with a double. After moving up on a fly out, she scored on Katy Olive's double. Eri PInter's single brought Olive home, and MU owned a 5-0 lead after two innings. 
•  After one hit through the first three innings, Toledo rallied with four straight hits and one run in the fourth. The bases were loaded when Hoskins got out of the inning with a fly out to center field. 
•  MU matched the Rockets' score in the fifth with an unearned run. Leila Mathis double to right, driving in Pinter. 
•  Neither team scored again until the seventh. Thirteen RedHawks batted in the inning, eventually scoring eight runs on four hits. Three walks and an error also contributed to the barrage.
Mia Estrello singled in the first two runs with one out. Campbell followed with a three-run homer.
Evey Dieudonne scored on a popup and two more came home following a Krueger  single. 

NOTES: 
•  Hosick struck out four, walked three and gave up seven hits. 
Four Toledo pitchers allowed 14 runs on 15 hits while walking five and striking out three. Ten of the 14 runs were earned as UT committed three errors. 
•  Campbell went 4-for-4  with four rbi's. She hit one homer and was hit by a pitch. 
•  Krueger recorded two hits, two walks and two rbi's.
•  Dieudonne and Mathis also had two hits, with the latter adding a pair of walk. 
•  Katie McDonald (8-9) took the loss. 
GAME TWO
•  Miami jumped on starter Lexi Johnson early. Manos opened with a single and Estrello was hit by a pitch. The next two batters walked, bringing Manos in and sending Johnson out. She was replaced in the circle by Mady Yackee. Dieiudonne's sacrifice fly brought in one more run.
Toledo managed to get a run of its own in the bottom half, taking advantage of three straight one-out walks. 
Miami got a second out by throwing out a Toledo runner at home, but Audrey Miller scored on a walk pitch before Ricciardi ended the inning with a strikeout. 
•  Krueger homered to left in the second, giving MU a 3-1 edge.
•  A pair of Rocket errors and hit batter helped Miami score two more runs in the third. 
•  Toledo's first two batters of the third walked on a total of eight pitches. However, Ricciardi got the next three batters out to end the threat. 
•  The RedHawks had one more rally left, eventually scoring four runs on five hits in the fourth. Estrello, Hernandez and Campbell stroked one-out singles.with the latter driving in one run. 
Dieudonne followed with a three-run homer that put MU up 9-1. When Toledo could not score in the bottom half, Miami owned a run-rule victory. 

NOTES
•  Ricciardi struck out five and walked six while throwing her no-hitter. 
•  Pinter and Krueger recorded multi-hit games (2 each). 
•  Dieudonne scored two runs and drove in four.
