AKRON, OH --
It was win or go home for RedHawks softball late Friday afternoon at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament.

Miami made sure the result was WIN!, dispatching Ball State 8-0 behind Le'a Chevrier's five-inning no-hitter. The only two Cardinals to reach base were a pair of hit batters -- one in each of the first two innings. It was the junior's first collegiate no-hitter.

Miami had beaten BSU in Thursday's first game, but lost to Ohio 5-2 earlier Friday. That put MU in the loser's bracket, where it waited for the mid-afternoon matchup of No. 4 seed Ball State and No. 5 seed Akron to play out. BSU pulled out a 5-4 win in that game but had to meet Miami following a short break.

. . . seven innings of MU's loss to Ohio, Chevrier (11-9) got the ball against Ball State. While shutting out the Cardinals on no hits, she struck out two and hit a pair.

Miami's offense, meanwhile, recorded seven hits and drew four walks while scoring eight runs in four turns at the plate. Senior Chloe Parks was the big stick, going 2-for-3 while driving in five runs. Danitza Hermandez also homered for MU.

The RedHawks scored half their runs in the first two innings, giving Chevrier a little breathing room.

One out into the Miami first inning, Oh was hit by a pitch. Parks followed with a home run to center field.

Jenna Golembiewski opened the RedHawks following inning with a walk and stole second. Ball State starter Brinkley Kita (5-4) got two outs but Hernandez then took a 1-1 pitch out to center for a two-run homer and 4-0 Miami lead. That was the end of the line for Kita. Breanna Severino.took over in the circle and got an inning-ending fly out.

Chevrier, meanwhile, began to cruise. She did not allow a base runner after the second inning, helping her finish the game on just 60 pitches.

Miami delivered its knockout blow in the forth. Nine batters came to the plate, and four scored. MU loaded the bases with two outs and Oh worked a walk to score Erin Pinter. Parks then brought in three more with a triple down the right field line.

Leading 8-0. the RedHawks needed just three outs in the fifth for a run-rule win. Chevrier took care of business, setting the Cardinals down on two ground outs and a final fly out to center.

NOTES:
• Miami meets Ohio in a finals matchup at 1 p.m. Saturday. If the RedHawks lose that contest the Bobcats are tourney champs. If MU wins, a second "finals" game would be held at 3:30 p.m.
• Seven of eight Miami runs came off the bats of Parks and Hernandez. The other trotted home on a bases loaded walk to Oh.
• Ball State had 91 batters hit by pitch this year. Miami was next with 40.
• The RedHawks have their work cut out for them Saturday. Ohio has won all four meetings with MU (0-2, 1-3, 6-7 and 2-5) this year. The first three games were in Athens April 18-19.
Ohio pitchers Skipp Miller (2.56) and Anna Wise (2.56) top the MAC in ERA  and have been relatively successful against Miami's offense, mixing speeds jamming RedHawk hitters.
