RedHawks split pair at Carolina Classic ![]() COLUMBIA, SC -- The Miami RedHawks softball team split a pair of games Friday in Carolina Classic action at the Carolina Softball Stadium. Danitza Hernandez and Mckenna Campbell stroked rbi hits in the 11th, driving in three runs as Miami defeated App State 9-6 in the first game. Host South Carolina shutout MU 8-0 in the second contest. Miami dropped to 2-5 on the year, while USC remained undefeated at 8-0. App State fell to 1-5. GAME 1: MIAMI 9, APP STATE 6 (11 innings)
The RedHawks scored four in the second and two in the third to take an early 6-0 lead against ASU. The Mountaineers got one back in the fourth but plated five more in the sixth. Two walks preceded a home run by Grace Barrett for three of the five runs. Neither team scored again until the 11th when Hernandez singled in one and Campbell followed with a two-run double. Kaylee Oh and Ella Carter contributed two hits and two runs apiece in Miami's nine-hit offense. The latter drove both runs in on a third inning homer. Madilyn Reeves went 5.2 innings in the circle for MU, surrendering seven hits and six earned runs with 10 strikeouts and seven walks. Lea Chevrier (W, 1-1) threw 5.1 shutout innings with four hits, four walks and seven Ks. Sophie Moshos took the loss for App State. GAME 2: SOUTH CAROLINA 8, MIAMI 0 The Gamecocks out-hit MU 5-4, but two of USC's hits were homers that drove in five runs. USC also drew eight walks on the day. South Carolina scored three in the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth. Shelbie Krieger (0-2) took the loss for MU, allowing six runs on three hits while walking six in 4.1 innings. Lea Chevrier gave up two runs on two hits with two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Holly Merritt, Jenna Golembiewski, Ella Carter and Erin Pinter recorded hits. Comments are closed.
