RedHawk errors pave way to loss in MAC opener Five of eight Bronco runs unearned OXFORD, OH -- Visiting Western Michigan took advantage of four RedHawks errors to score five unearned runs in an 8-6 win over Miami Friday at the Miami Softball Complex. The loss ended MU's 13-game winning streak and started the defending MAC champions off with a loss in the conference opener. Le'a Chevrier took the loss for Miami (19-4, 0-1 MAC). She allowed eight hits but just three of the Broncos runs were earned. Hannah Potts went the distance for WMU, surrendering 12 hits and six earned runs. The RedHawks took . . . . . . a 2-0 lead in the third, with Katy Olive homering following a two-out single by Danitza Hernandez. Western Michigan responded quickly, scoring five fourth-inning runs on just two hits. The first two Broncos reached on errors and Tristen Head singled to center. MU then retired the next two batters, with one run scoring on a sacrifice fly. After Kendall Kotzmacher drew a walk, the Broncos sent Anna Niles in to pinch hit. She responded by plating four runs with a grand slam. Now trailing 5-2, Miami got a pair back on Bailey Manos' two-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Western Michigan's offense erupted for three more runs (two earned) in the sixth. All three came after two outs. Pinch hitter Hannah Herman doubled in two and Bella Duncan singled in one more. Miami managed to get one run in the sixth on Mia Estrello's rbi single. Olive's solo homer -- her second four-bagger of the day - in the seventh closed out MU scoring. NOTES:
