DAYTON, OH --
Hosting Dayton (22-21) scored four first inning runs to account for all the scoring in a 4-0 Flyers win over Miami (35-16) Tuesday at the UD Softball Stadium.

Kate Kastelic (W,4-5) picked up the win, allowing seven hits and striking out three while pitching a shutout. Leah Chevrier (L, 9-5) picked up the loss, returning from injury for her first action since early April.

The rust showed early . . .

. . . as UD scored four first inning runs on three hits and a walk.  Four of the first five batters reached base. Molly Grace doubled in two runs and Kirstin Gallego homered for the other two scores. Chevrier then struck out the next two batters to end the rally and allowed just more one hit while going five innings. Angelina Ricciardi finished with a hitless/scoreless inning.

Miami's offense, meanwhile, failed to produce a run. It's best chances came in the fourth and seventh.

Danitza Hernandez opened the fourth inning with a single and McKenna Campbell followed with a double to right center. Hernandez was thrown out at home for the first out and two ground outs followed.

Campbell again doubled in the seventh, but was thrown out trying to reach third after an out at first. Ella Carter singled with two outs, but a fly out to left ended the game.

NEXT: Miami finishes its regular season at home with three matchups against (MAC) last place Bowling Green - one game Friday (3 p.m.) and two Saturday (1p.m. and 3 p.m.). The MAC tournament will be held May 6-9 at Firestone Stadium in Akron. It is a double-elimination bracket event featuring the league's top six teams. Miami has already qualified for a spot.

NOTES:
•  MU out-hit the Flyers 7-4.
•  Hernandez and Campbell were the only RedHawks with multiple hits. Both of Campbell's hits were doubles.
•  Miami standed four runners, while UD left no runners on base. The Flyers also had just one base runner after the first inning.
•  Chevrier finished with three strikeouts and one walk while throwing 79 pitches over five frames.
