Late homers give Miami Sunday split ![]() HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Jenna Golembiewski tripled and homered while scoring twice and driving in two runs in a 5-3 Miami win over East Tennessee State Sunday at Charger Park. The victory gave Miami a split on the day, with the RedHawks falling to No. 16 Mississippi State 11-7 in Game 1. Both contests were part of the Rocket City Showcase. MU went 1-4 in the event, falling to a pair of Top 20 teams -- No. 18 Auburn and No. 16 Mississippi State, as well as unranked Mississippi/Ole Miss. The RedHawks are now 4-10 following "showcase" tournaments in Arizona, North Carolina and Alabama. SUNDAY GAME 1 - MISSISSIPPI STATE 11, MIAMI 7 • Offenses came out swinging early, scoring a combined 15 runs in the first three innings. Miami struck first when Shelby Kunkel raced home on Chloe Parks steal of second. After moving up on a ground out, Parks scored on a Golembiewski fly to center field. • After MSU plated one in the bottom half, the RedHawks rallyed for four second inning runs. Kari Krueger drove in the first one with a single. Two more came home on a Parks single and Bulldogs error. Holly Merritt's sacrifice fly RBI put MU up 6-1. • That lead was erased when MSU exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second. •Miami's final run came in the third when Krueger drove in Sydney Gilbert. •Mississippi State added two in the third and one more in the sixth. • The Bulldogs out-hit MU 10-8 overall. • Le'a Chevrier (2-4) took the loss for Miami, surrendering five hits and eight runs (6 earned). She struck out one and walked four. Shelbie Krieger gave up two runs and three hits in two-thirds of an inning. Madilyn Reeves went 3.1 innings, allowing two hits and one run. • Everett Delainey (3-0) picked up the win for MSU. ![]() SUNDAY GAME 2 -- MIAMI 5, EAST TENNESSEE STATE 3 • The Buccaneers struck for two first inning runs against Miami starter Madilyn Reeves. • MU moved in front with three in the third. Golembiewski's triple to right center scored Parks. Merritt brought Golemviewski home with a groundout, and Krueger singled to score McKenna Campbell for a 3-2 RedHawks edge. • ETSU tied the contest with an unearned run in the fourth. • Miami, played long-ball for its final two runs. Madie Patton homered to center in the fourth and Goembiewski slugged her fourth home run of the season for MU's fifth run. • The Buc mounted a seventh inning three, putting two on with two out, but a fly out to second ended the contest. • Reeves went the distance for Miami, raising her record to 2-4 on the year.
