Herd homers hang loss on RedHawks HUNTINGTON, WV -- A pair of home runs key Marshall's three -run third inning, and the Thundering Herd held off Miami's late comeback attempt for a 5-4 victory Tuesday. Angelina Recciardi (9-4) took the loss for Miami (21-8), while Paige Maynard (6-2) got the win for Marshall. (23-9). The RedHawks outhit Marshall 9-7, with seven Miami players getting at least one hit. Left fielder Evey Dieudonne and third baseman Leila Mathis stroked two safties apiece. Miami jumped in front . . . . . . early with Danitza Hernandez singling in Katy Olive in the first inning. However, Marshall drew even with a first inning run of its own. It then added a go-ahead run on Harley Adkins single to right.
The home team went up 5-1 with a three-run third. Chandler Hoskins homered to left for the first score. Haleigh Adkins added two more with a homer of her own. The Thundering Herd would not score another run. Miami, meanwhile, chipped away over the last wo innings.. Madie Patton scored on an infield single in the sixth inning. Hernandz scored on a groundout for one seventh inning run. McKenna Campbell's single through the right side drove in another. However, a two-out fly out to center left Miami one run short. Riccardi allowed five runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts in five innings for the RedHawks. Lea Chevrier tossed one scoreless inning, allowing one hit. NEXT: Miami returns to action at 3 p.m. Friday for the first of three as it hosts Kent State. Comments are closed.
