Pitching shines as RedHawks earn Saturday sweep

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Miami University softball team completed a Saturday afternoon doubleheader sweep, defeating the University of Minnesota and San Diego State to close out a perfect day in San Diego. Miami downed Minnesota to begin the day, 6-1 and followed that up with a 7-1 victory over SDSU.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1 vs. Minnesota) 
The RedHawks kicked off the game in the bottom of the first with Mia Fleming scoring off of a fielding error made by the Gophers. 
The Gophers responded in the top of the fourth, scoring off of a wild pitch, to tie up the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, off of a sacrifice fly from Evey Dieudonne, Katy Olive scored. Bailey Manos scored right after, off of a sacrifice bunt from Fleming, making the score 3-1 at the end of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Olive tripled, allowing Ella Carter and Erin Pinter to score. Manos singled and brought Olive home, ending the sixth with a 6-1 lead.
The RedHawks ultimately pulled out a 6-1 win against the Gophers.

NOTES:
Katy Olive went 2-for-2 at the plate, had two of the six runs, had the only triple of the game and was credited with two RBI for the RedHawks.
Bailey Manos went 2-for-3 at the plate, had one run, and was credited with one RBI.
Presley Hosick pitched the complete game for the RedHawks, only allowing four hits.
Five RedHawks were credited with RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2 vs. SDSU)
The RedHawks started the game off strong at the top of the first with Fleming scoring from second base off a throwing error. 
The Aztecs responded in the bottom of the first, making the score 1-1.
In the top of the second, Danitza Hernandez scored off of a fielder's choice hit by Manos. The RedHawks took a 2-1 lead at the end of the second inning.
The Red and White extended their advantage at the top of the third with Olive and Carter scoring off two throwing errors made by the Aztecs. Pinter then took advantage of a single hit by Hernandez to score, pushing Miami's lead to 5-1. 
Miami added two more runs in the seventh inning. Fleming drove in Mia Estrello with a sacrifice fly, and Olive followed with a single to bring Manos home.
The RedHawks closed out the game with a 7–1 win to complete the 2-0 day.

NOTES:
Danitza Hernandez went one-for-one at the plate, brought in one run, and was credited with one RBI.
Seven RedHawks scored runs.
The RedHawks reached on three errors and once on a fielder's choice.
