EDITORS'S NOTE: Although No. 3 seed Miami was eliminated on Day One, some MU fans remained interested in the tourney results. This article addresses those results. FYI -- Top-seeded Zips defeat Broncos for tourney title FYI -- Regular season champ Akron added a MAC Softball Tournament title to its 2026 accomplishments Saturday, knocking off No. 6 seed Western Michigan 3-1 in the championship game. With the victory UA earned a berth in this year's NCAA tournament. WMU was the sixth of six teams to make the tournament. However, the Broncos Knocked off No. 3 seed Miami on Day One, No. 2 seed Northern Illinois and nearly took down Akron on Day Three. A Zips grand Slam in the seventh inning gave UA a 4-2 win. When Western Michigan . . . . . . scored three seventh inning runs to eliminate Ohio in Saturday's first game, it got another shot at Akron. However, the Zips broke a 1-1 tie with two fourth inning runs and held WMU scoreless over the last three innings to secure the win and tournament title. Comments are closed.
